EMERGENCY PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS:

Emergency planning considerations refer to the factors and actions that individuals or communities should take into account during an emergency.  these considerations are essential for preparedness, response, and recovery from various types of emergencies,  such as natural disasters, accidents, health crises, or security incidents.  They involve understanding potential risks, developing emergency plans, and taking appropriate actions to mitigate harm and ensure the safety and well-being of people  affected by the emergency.

Once the hazards have been identified, the possible major impacts of each hazard should be itemized, such as:

• sequential events (for example, fires spreading after an explosion);
• evacuation;
• casualties;
• damage to plant infrastructure;
• damage to equipment & machinery;
• loss of vital records and documents;
• disruption of work, services provided and production.

Bases on these events, the required actions are determined for example:

• declare the emergency;
• sound the alarm;
• evacuate the danger zone/s;
• segregate the danger zone by securing the main points of access;
• call for external assistance;
• initiate rescue operations;
• attending to casualties;
• fight fires.
